Biblical Counseling Goes Beyond Simply Giving Advice
When people hear the words biblical counseling, they sometimes imagine being given a Bible verse, a few encouraging words, and a reminder to have more faith. But thoughtful biblical counseling is far more than that.
The struggles we face rarely exist in isolation. Our circumstances, relationships, fears, desires, beliefs, and deeply ingrained patterns of responding to life are often woven together in ways that we don't immediately recognize. Understanding those connections takes time, honest conversation, intentional listening, and wisdom.
Biblical counseling seeks to understand not only what someone is going through, but how they are making sense of it, what is shaping their responses, and where they may feel ensnared or uncertain. Thankfully, Scripture gives more than comforting words, trite answers, or quick solutions. Rather, it offers a rich understanding of the human heart, the brokeness of life, the grace of God, and the hope of meaningful change and transformation.
The goal isn’t to offer a quick spiritual answer to a complicated issue or difficulty you are facing. It is to walk thoughfully through the realities of life, allowing biblical truth to inform how you understand yourself, relate to others, and take faithful steps forward.
A Little About Cody
I'm Cody Shores, a biblical counselor, pastor, and teacher. I hold a Master of Arts in Biblical Counseling and a Master of Divinity, and I've spent years serving, teaching, and walking alongside people through the difficulties of life.
Over the years, I have been blessed to counsel individuals and couples facing a variety of concerns, including relationships and marriage difficulties, individual struggles, anxiety, and questions of faith. While the circumstances may differ, I’ve come to value how significant it is to take time to understand each person’s story.
I recognize that reaching out for counseling isn’t always easy. You may have a clear sense of what is troubling you, or you may be struggling to put that into words. My desire is to provide a setting where you can speak honestly, ask difficult questions, and thoughtfully consider what meaningful steps forward might look like in light of God's Word.
